Curriculum in Building Area Measurement

Tracy, Principal Metrologist of Building Area Measurement, is a registered provider of continuing education for AIA Members and a certified as an instructor by the BOMI Instructor Development Institute. We have conducted seminars for property managers, facility managers, design professionals, attorneys, rotary clubs and others. BAM-101 - Building Area Measurement Overview for Design Professionals

A 1-hour primer for practicing design professionals who deal with leased space. This class focuses on adding value to design services. It covers the uses of square footage in the creation, management, leasing and exchange of real property, identifies the major measurement standards and when they are employed, and covers liability exposure and general legal considerations. AIA/CES credit of 1.0 hour.

BAM-102 - Building Area Measurement Overview for Business People

A 1-hour primer for tenants, landlords, facility managers, and other stakeholders in real property who deal with leased space. This class covers the uses of the square foot, the “Currency of Real Estate”, in the creation, management, leasing and exchange of real property. It reviews current measurement standards and practices, presents a simple explanation of how they work, and examines current issues and trends in space measurement.

BAM-201 - The BOMA Standard for Measurement of Office Space

A 3.5-hour seminar for design professionals, landlords and their consultants who have hands-on exposure applying the BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Office Buildings (ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-1996). Covers the history, theory and application of the standard, and identifies resources available for on-going support. Includes hands on measurement experience (from plans). Course developed by BOMA for CPM & RPA certification. AIA/CES credit of 3.0 hours.

BAM-202 - The BOMA Answers to 26 Questions about the BOMA Standard

A 2.0-hour seminar for design professionals, landlords and their consultants who have hands-on exposure applying the BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Office Buildings (ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-1996). Covers in-depth the Answers to 26 Key Questions about the ANSI/BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Office Buildings published by BOMA. Prerequisite: BAM-201. AIA/CES credit of 2.0 hours.

BAM-203 - The Single R/U Ratio Modification to the BOMA Standard

A 2.0-hour seminar for design professionals, landlords and their consultants who have hands-on exposure applying the BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Office Buildings (ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-1996). Shows how to implement a modification to the BOMA Standard that will allow the use of a single multi-tenant R/U Ratio for all floors of an office building. Prerequisite: BAM-201. AIA/CES credit of 2.0 hours.

BAM-210 - Intro to the BOMA Standard for Measurement of Industrial Space

A 1.0 hour introductory seminar for design professionals, building managers and their consultants who require a basic understanding of the principles of the BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Industrial Buildings and the differences between it and the BOMA Office Measurement Standard. AIA/CES credit of 1.0 hour.

BAM-211 - The BOMA Standard for Measurement of Industrial Space

A 3.5-hour seminar for design professionals, landlords and their consultants who have hands-on exposure applying the BOMA Standard Method of Measuring Floor Area in Industrial Buildings. Covers the history, theory and application of the standard, and identifies resources available for on-going support. Includes hands’-on measurement experience (from plans). Prerequisite: BAM-201. AIA/CES credit of 3.0 hours.

BAM-301 - Building Area Measurements in Practice

An advanced 3.5-hour seminar for design professionals, property management staff and consultants who have hands-on responsibility for producing space measurements used in leasing and management of real property. Includes proven in-house and field procedures and tools (manual and computer-based) used for measurement, documentation, quality control, record keeping, legal and insurance aspects, and the successful administration of a “Square Foot Accounting System.” Pre-requisites include BAM-201 or BAM 211. AIA/CES credit of 3.0 hours.
