Sustainable Practices

Energy Saving Measures

  • All lighting is provided by compact florescent light bulbs.
  • Air conditioning is primarily by natural ventilation and, only when needed, provided by a Mitsubishi split system heat pump that cools or heats only one room office area, not the entire building.
  • Thermostat limits are 78º (cooling) and 65º (heating).
  • Computer system (including network router) is turned off and unplugged at night and whenever they are not in actual use.

Resource Preservation and Recycling

  • Paper used for printing is 30% recycled content.
  • Duplex printing is used for documents over 1 page.
  • Printed drafts and extra pages that are blank on the back side that saved and re-used.
  • All recyclable waste is separated and recycled through the City and County of Denver recycling program.
  • Adobe PDF is used to assemble and distribute reports, avoiding unnecessary printing.
  • Faxes are received electronically as Adobe PDF files. Junk or unimportant faxes are not printed.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

  • Employee commuting between home and office is non-existent.
  • Transportation outside office is via scooter, public transportation or OccasionalCar car-sharing plan.
  • Carbon offsets are purchased through the Colorado Carbon Fund to offset the carbon impact of air travel.

On-site Energy Generation

  • BAM is 100% solar powered, drawing all its electrical power from a 6.34 kilowatt roof-mounted photovoltaic array with surplus energy going back into the electrical grid.
