The GWCAR Standard
The front cover of this standard carries the title "Standard Method of Measurement© / A Formula for Calculating Rentable Office and Retail Space and the name of it's publisher, The Greater Washington Commercial Association of Realtors. The current version was printed with updated exhibits in April, 2001 but is otherwise the same as the previous version published on June 13, 1995.This Standard can be obtained by calling the Greater Washington Commercial Association of Realtors "Realtor Store" at 301-590-2000. The cost is $10 for GWCAR members ($20 for non-members). You can get an on-line order form that you can fax at GWCAR Publications but the standard could not be actually ordered on-line at the time of this writing. The GWCAR Standard was previously known as the WDCAR (Washington D. C Association of Realtors) Standard, and is applied in Washington, D.C. and nearby parts of Virginia and Maryland. It has many similarities to the 1996 BOMA Standard (such as a 2% tolerance and a sample summary spreadsheet) and many subtle differences (the "Dominant Surface" is based upon vertical wall area not vertical dimensions). Like the BOMA standard, it is a substantial document (14 double-sided pages) containing many multi-color illustrations and technical definitions. Since the US General Services Administration as adopted the BOMA Standard, application of the GWCAR standard has been less widespread. |
